PolyTech Lightning Test Center, Herning (DEN)

PolyTech operates the biggest lightning laboratory in the world, where the primary focus is on flexible lightning tests for the wind power industry.

The lightning laboratory is accredited by DANAK in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard. All tests are performed under strict observance of requirements pertaining to, for example:

  • access conditions
  • storage of test objects
  • traceability
  • methods for performing tests
  • reporting and processing of test data

As one of many consequences, all test objects – irrespective of size – are screened off and accessible only to the customer and authorised test personnel.

At the PolyTech Lightning Lab, you can order a wide range of flexible lightning tests:

All tests are conducted in compliance with method descriptions and comprehensive safety measures that live up to the test centre’s accreditation in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard. This means that test objects, test methods and test results are kept completely confidential and isolated from other customer projects, including PolyTech’s own development projects.

We operate the following primary test generators:

  • High voltage generator for max. 3 MV
  • Conducted current generator for max. 200 kA

Access conditions to the test centre allow us to perform tests on extremely large test objects such as complete blades, full-size nacelles and other large components and subsidiary systems.

Have your lightning protection systems tested on site
All testing and measurement equipment at the PolyTech Lightning Lab is mobile. Within just a few days, we can therefore be ready to perform the desired tests at a remote production or test location.
